The 5 Elements of Proper Goal Setting

Dec 23, 2019

Welcome to the Magellan Network Show. Today I want to devote this episode to goal setting. I know this sounds so basic to you but there are a lot of nuances in terms of coming up with goals.

Consider this as training that you can use to write your goals and business plan. Remember, never go to the new year or the new decade with concepts rattling in your mind. I want you to have clarity on what it is that you want.

Even if you don't follow our 12 Step Program inside the Magellan, I want you to do more than just writing things down. Today, I will share with you my latest concepts and strategies in creating goals.

  1. Write things down

A lot of people do not write down their thoughts which hurts their process in creating goals. What others do is just think. Then they overthink and justify.

Give yourself about 10 or 15 minutes to write down the things you want to accomplish. It could be short term or long term personal goals, business goals, experiences, bucket list, etc. Just write it down.

  1. Collection of Goals

On the list that you have written down, pick things that you want to work on in 2020. You're not gonna work on them all. What I recommend is to pick about 5 to 8 things. If you are super organized then you could have 10.

The next thing you need to do is start vetting them. You need to ask yourself "Is this a needs-based goal or a wants-based goal?"

Watch this video to learn the difference between “Needs-based goal” & “Wants-based goal” And the 5 key elements to proper goal setting.
